Exploring My Future in Animation: Studios, Cities, and Roles
During my research into the animation industry, I realized that the creative environment I long for is one that balances originality, teamwork, and personal expression. I am particularly drawn to smaller studios. My interest in animation began with Japanese anime, but as Chinese original animation has resurged, I have become increasingly focused on domestic works. Among them, my favorite is The Legend of Luoxiaohei. Its world-building, narrative style, and emotional depth are remarkable, and I am especially drawn to its fresh, cute art style and heartwarming storylines.

I am particularly inspired by its creator, Wood (MTJJ). He began producing short episodes independently and gradually expanded his team, eventually founding Beijing Hanmu Chunhua Animation Technology Co., Ltd. in 2012. His years of perseverance and dedication to creating characters full of life reflect the kind of animation I aspire to make: characters that feel alive, with careful attention to detail and genuine emotion. Observing his process has given me a clearer vision of the creative standards and work ethic I hope to cultivate in my own career.
In terms of career development, I hope to work in Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, where there are more original animation teams, independent animators, and opportunities for artistic exchange. In the short term, my goal is to gain extensive professional experience and build connections within the industry. In the long term, I aim to collaborate with like-minded partners to create our own animations and studio, providing opportunities for other young animators to enter the field.
Among all production roles, I am most passionate about being a character animator. At its core, this role is about giving life to flat characters and shaping how expressive they appear. In The Legend of Luoxiaohei, the characters’ movements feel natural—their interactions and breathing rhythms reflect the animator’s careful observation of everyday life. Combined with a solid understanding of animation principles and subtle, appropriate acting, these details give the characters realism and warmth, which also made them popular in China. This experience has strengthened my interest in character animation and reinforced my desire to refine my skills within this field.
Given the opportunity, I hope to join a team like this in the future, in a passionate, harmonious environment that values originality and careful character animation.
