Exploring a Career in Post-production Editing
Another career path I am interested in is post-production editing. Although my main focus is 2D animation, I have gradually developed an interest in video editing through both personal practice and project experience. I enjoy using software such as Premiere Pro and After Effects to edit videos, create transitions, and reinterpret visual storytelling. For me, editing is not only a technical process, but also a way of reshaping emotion and narrative.
My interest in editing first started as a hobby. I often create fan edits by combining clips from films and re-editing them into new stories. Through this process, I learned how rhythm, timing, and music can completely change the mood of a scene. I also experimented with transitions and visual effects, which helped me become more familiar with basic editing techniques in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

In my graduation group project, Press Any Key to Live, I was responsible for compositing my own animation scenes, as well as editing and integrating all team members’ animation shots into the final sequence. This included selecting music and sound effects, adjusting timing and pacing, and integrating all visual and audio elements into a complete sequence. Through this experience, I realised that post-production plays a crucial role in storytelling. Even small changes in timing or sound can significantly affect how the audience understands and responds emotionally to the work.

Compared with animation production and pre-production design, I feel that post-production is the area where I have less formal training. Most of my skills come from self-learning and trial and error. When I encounter problems, I usually search for tutorials online and apply new techniques directly to my projects. Although this method is not fully systematic, it helps me gradually build practical experience.
However, I also realised that post-production is a broad field with different styles, including cinematic editing, animation-style editing, and experimental collage techniques. Each style requires different approaches to pacing, rhythm, and visual effects. Therefore, if I want to develop this career further, I need to explore these styles more systematically and strengthen my personal editing direction.
If I choose this career path in the future, I will continue improving my technical skills in Premiere Pro and After Effects, build a more structured editing portfolio, and explore different editing styles to find the one that best suits my creative interests. I will also gain more experience through personal and collaborative projects.
