Exploring a Career as a 2D Character Animator

The career path I am most interested in is becoming a 2D character animator. This has been my goal since I first started studying animation, and it is also the area I am most familiar with through both learning and practical experience. I am particularly interested in character performance, as I enjoy bringing characters to life through movement, timing, and facial expression.

During my studies in 2D animation, I have participated in several individual and group projects, as well as internship experiences in animation production. These opportunities allowed me to work with different animation software and understand various production pipelines. In our graduation project, Press Any Key to Live, I contributed to character animation and improved my understanding of performance, movement consistency, and storytelling. I also learned the importance of communication and task distribution in a team environment, as animation production relies not only on individual ability but also on effective collaboration and workflow management.

In the past, my understanding of the human body structure was relatively weak. I often avoided drawing human characters and focused more on simple or stylised designs. However, to prepare for a career as an animator, I began practising life drawing and studying body proportions, poses, and hand movements. Although my current level is still developing, I can clearly see my progress compared to before, and I plan to continue this practice consistently.

Through these experiences, I have also realised that working as a 2D animator requires good drawing skills, as well as a healthy physical and mental condition to cope with the demanding nature of production work. Therefore, I have come to understand the importance of discipline and patience, as well as maintaining a balanced lifestyle through regular exercise such as running, swimming, or fitness training to support both physical and mental well-being.

To prepare for this career path, I will continue improving my animation skills, especially in character acting, body structure, and life drawing. After completing my graduation project, I plan to develop a more structured portfolio and apply for positions in animation studios or small independent studios with strong creative styles.
